Attorney Lori Atkins Drayton is the head of the firm’s Landlord Tenant department where she practices in housing law and landlord/tenant litigation.
Ms. Drayton represents national management companies and large landlords in federal, state and municipal matters. She specializes in summary process actions, civil actions and complex litigation involving affordable, subsidized and market housing. She has litigated thousands of landlord tenant cases throughout every Housing Court and most District Courts in Massachusetts on issues of lead paint, mold, smoking, bedbug issues, retaliation, discrimination, implied warranty of habitability, covenant of quiet enjoyment, sanitary code enforcement, unauthorized occupant and/or pet, non- payment of rent, security deposits, breach of contract and class actions disputes. Ms. Drayton also regularly removes tenants from multi-family properties under G.L. c. 139 §19 as a result of violent crimes, possession of firearms or illegal drugs. She is well-versed in fair housing regulations, reasonable accommodation requirements and housing discrimination claims. Ms. Drayton appears in court daily to mediate cases as well as to conduct substantive motions and trials in a high-volume housing law practice.
Ms. Drayton has amassed a noteworthy record of success in mediation and conciliation proceedings, and in negotiating favorable out-of-court settlements resolving legal disputes. Recognized equally for her skills as a trial attorney, she has been named a “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers as published in Boston Magazine. Ms. Drayton was also awarded within the 2016 “Top Women of Law” by Lawyers Weekly which recognized her success as an attorney and her work within the community.
Prior to transitioning to private practice, Ms. Drayton was in public service as an Assistant District Attorney with the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office. While serving the people of Massachusetts, Ms. Drayton was responsible for all phases of criminal prosecution in five district courts throughout the Commonwealth. Ms. Drayton prosecuted hundreds of juvenile and adult matters. She was also the Assistant District Attorney in charge of the drug court and substance abuse rehabilitation initiatives in Boston, Charlestown and Chelsea.
She is a 2001 magna cum laude graduate of Suffolk University and a 2004 graduate of Suffolk University Law School. She is an active member of the Norfolk County Bar Association, as well as the Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island Bar Association. She also sits on the Suffolk University Advisory Board.
Ms. Drayton lives in Foxboro with her husband and two children.
